5 Star Audio Review ~ Atlas by Sawyer Bennett

Synopsis:

As a star left-winger for the Pittsburgh Titans, Atlas Karolak thrives on the ice but keeps his personal life uncomplicated. That all changes when tragedy strikes, pushing him into an unlikely partnership that tests his patience, challenges his heart, and threatens to rewrite everything he thought he knew about love and family.

Playing professional hockey wasn’t just a dream, it was the only one that ever mattered. I’ve worked my whole life for this career, and now that I’m playing for the Pittsburgh Titans, I’m exactly where I want to be. My life feels complete.

Losing my best friend to cancer shatters me in ways I didn’t see coming. And as I’m trying to figure out how to say goodbye, I’m blindsided again—because he’s named me and Maddie St. James as joint guardians of his daughter.

Maddie and I… we’re not friends. We’re barely acquaintances. If I’m oil, she’s water, and we’ve never managed to mix without friction. But for the sake of a little girl who’s already lost too much, we need to find neutral ground and figure out how to co-parent.

Are we capable? I’d like to think so. Are we scared out of our minds? Without a doubt. Can we put our differences aside and work together? Honestly, it depends on the day. But when stress turns into stolen glances, which turn into nights we can’t take back, our partnership gets a whole lot more complicated.

Because what started as obligation is starting to feel a lot like forever.

Review:

I absolutely fell hard for Atlas and Maddie’s story. Atlas and Maddie are brought together through Atlas’s best friend, Grey, who passed away and left them both as guardians of his daughter, Grace. Losing Grey was devastating for both of them, because he meant something different to each of them—but ultimately, he was their rock.

Atlas is determined to be the best dad he can be for Grace, but Maddie is an issue he can’t quite figure out how to handle. Grey told him to “take care of her,” but who exactly did he mean? Grace, who Atlas would protect with his life without question? Or Maddie—the thorn in his side who constantly challenges and frustrates him?

Maddie faces incredibly hard decisions, including moving in with Atlas and sharing responsibility for Grace. Leaving behind the life she knew isn’t easy, but she’s willing to do it if it means giving Grace the best possible future.

Atlas and Maddie face many hurdles as they work to build a stable, loving life for Grace. Along the way, Maddie must come to realize that she is part of the Titans family—and that they will never let her fail.

This story tears you apart from the very first sentence and then slowly puts you back together in the most beautiful way. I can’t wait for more of Sawyer Bennett’s incredible Titans series. Jeremy York and Kirsten Leigh were amazing narrators for the audiobook and truly brought the characters and story to life.
