Review ~ Racing the Sun by Karina Halle

From the New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of Where Sea Meets Sky comes a new adult novel about a young woman who becomes a nanny in Capri and falls for her charges’ bad-boy brother.

When I’m traveling, I feel like the secret to my life, to myself, to really becoming, is one step ahead. It’s in the next destination, the next town I get lost in, the next stranger I talk to. It’s always next but never here . . .

After six months of backpacking and soul-searching across the world, Amber MacLean is flat broke. There are worse places for a twentysomething to be stuck than the Amalfi Coast, but the only way she can earn enough money for a plane ticket home to California is to teach English to two of the brattiest children she has ever met.

It doesn’t help that the children are under the care of their brooding older brother, ex-motorcycle racer Desiderio Larosa. Darkly handsome and oh-so-mysterious, the young master of the crumbling villa tests Amber’s patience and will at every turn—not to mention her hormones.

When her position turns into a full-time nanny gig, Amber grows dangerously closer to the enigmatic recluse. But can she give up the certainty of home for someone whose closely guarded heart feels a world apart from her own?

Review:

Karina Halle has completely and utterly stole my heart and blown me away again! Racing the Sun, the second book in her new incredible series all of which can be read as standalones, was just as fantastic as its predecessor Where Sea Meets Sky.

Racing the Sun follows the witty and charming Amber. We were given a small glimpse of the type of person Amber was from Where Sea Meets Sky, but we get to know her & fall in love with her in Racing the Sun. Amber is strong willed, funny, caring and doesn't back down when someone else may. She fights for what she believes and that's something I really admired about her. This story is Amber's journey to love, finding it in the most unlikely place when she finds herself in the most unlikely position. When Amber finds herself employed by the cocky and grumpy Desaderio Larosa, she doesn't ever imagine to find herself falling for the former racecar driver and the two children he finds himself responsible for.

The chemistry between Derio & Amber was hot. Their back and forth game that they played from the very beginning was great foreplay for those relationship. Amber brought Derio out of his shell, showed him that even after previous heartbreak, love can shine through and show you the way.

Karina Halle has such a way with words. Her words are powerful, beautiful, strong, funny, so many things. She showed all of that and so much for in Racing the Sun, providing everything that needs to be present to create a great story. This book took hold of my heart and didn't want to let go. I can't wait to see what this diverse author is going to present us with next. If your looking for a beautiful story that has its broken pieces, then look no further.. Seriously. You won't regret it.
