To be able to delve into the dark world of the Hawks and the Weavers and their age old debt is such a beuatiful story to get submerged into. Pepper Winters second book in the Indebted Series follows Nila and Jethro on their journey through a power struggle of their feelings and their control. 

The story picks up exactly where book one, Indebted left off. First Debt takes on a simpler tone for me. This time around we knew what to expect in terms of story while at the same time left with the same mystery we had in the first installment. There are still those secrets and lies that existed in book one, but we are starting to begin to see the truth in this book. Also, instead of hating our hero, I found myself loving him and rooting for him and Nila. I was rooting for Nila to win, to conquer the one thing she had the power to do if she just broke free of her shell. And I was waiting for Jet to realize instead of his enemy, Nila may very well have been the sun to thaw his icy heart.

This story was RAW! No other way to describe it. And while I enjoyed the first book immensely, I just could NOT put down this one... Couldn't put it down. I was like a moth to a flame. I craved more. I crave more. I secretly hope that this story has a happily ever after but I fear those hopes may not come true because this is just one in 6 books in this series and this story still has a long way to go. 

Pepper Winters is the Queen of Dark. Her writing is old world, her words captivating and haunting. I love that instead of how a story can just be simple, this story and her writing is intricate and enchanting, grasping you and not letting you go from the start to the finish. Another stellar story told by one of my favorite authors. And now the wait, and the wondering of what is the Second Debt.

Excerpt:

A small gasp fell from my lips as his fingers kissed the paper-thin skin. His eyes held me hostage. The golden brown was now a swirling bronze, raging with the same demanding hunger I knew reflected in mine.

“This sort of reminds me of the forest,” I whispered. “The trees around us—no one else.” My words fell like petals, waiting for Jethro to crush them beneath his glossy shoe.

But…he didn’t.

Tracing one hand from my wrist, along the inside of my arm, and right to my throat, he fisted my ponytail. With intensity that stripped my soul to the very essence of who I was, he pulled my head back slowly, sensually, full of sexual power.

His eyes dropped to my mouth. “I’ll let you in on a little secret, Ms. Weaver.”

I panted, my neck straining against his hold, but I made no move to break the poignant awareness.
