4 STAR REVIEW-- Black Iris by Leah Raeder

BLACK IRIS
by Leah Raeder

It only took one moment of weakness for Laney Keating’s world to fall apart. One stupid gesture for a hopeless crush. Then the rumors began. Slut, they called her. Queer. Psycho. Mentally ill, messed up, so messed up even her own mother decided she wasn't worth sticking around for.

If Laney could erase that whole year, she would. College is her chance to start with a clean slate.

She's not looking for new friends, but they find her: charming, handsome Armin, the only guy patient enough to work through her thorny defenses—and fiery, filterless Blythe, the bad girl and partner in crime who has thorns of her own.

But Laney knows nothing good ever lasts. When a ghost from her past resurfaces—the bully who broke her down completely—she decides it's time to live up to her own legend. And Armin and Blythe are going to help.

Which was the plan all along.

Because the rumors are true. Every single one. And Laney is going to show them just how true.

She's going to show them all.

4 Star Review--

Leah Raeder told such a dark, gritty and twisted tale in Black Iris, her newest novel. Black Iris follows our main character Laney and her two best friends Armin and Blythe. The story between these three is so delicately woven together. They captivated you from the very beginning.

At times I desperately was in love with this story, and at other I was so angry that I absolutely hated it. My love hate relationship with this book bordered on scary. Laney was such a dark character, you didn't know why she would turn to or who she would turn to next. She was all over.. I felt for her. She made me so sad, so mad, so angry!

Blythe, she may have been my favorite character. She was just as manic and crazy as Laney but she wasn't afraid to jump, so to speak. She was strong, domineering, and all over but it made her the strongest character in the book in my opinion.

The story is something else... Not like anything I have ever read before. Leah Raeder did such a great job with the storyline. I love the love story in this book too. Taboo. It was beautiful to see the dark love Bylthe and Laney developed, how strong their connection was. Armin and Laney was just as powerful. He loved her heart & soul.. Without giving too much away, this story was dark, twisted and ALL OVER the place. That's the only reason I gave this book four stars, because I didn't know where one piece of the story began and the others ended. It was that intense!

Black Iris is such a beautiful broken and heart achingly dark story that will stay with me for a long time.
