4 Star Review--A Necessary Sin by Goergia Cates

Bleu MacAllister is consumed. A horrific childhood incident has caused every decision in her life to revolve around bringing a monster to justice. With years spent studying The Fellowship, an organized crime brotherhood of liars, thieves, and killers, Bleu will rely on her skills as a special agent to cut Thane Breckenridge off at the knees. But walking hand in hand with retribution means risking collateral damage, in the form of Breckenridge’s son Sinclair—until Sin becomes so much more than Bleu bargained for. She’s always known this undertaking would place her life in danger—she never imagined her heart would be as well.

EXCERPT:

Sinclair Breckenridge’s POV:

“People don’t realize the things they say without uttering a word. Something as simple as the lift in the corner of one’s mouth can reveal thoughts and emotions better than any voice. Body language—it’s nature’s crafty trick, second only to falling in love.”
“Aye. It’s a shan.”
“A shan?”
“Americans would probably use the word shame.”
“Oh. You sound like you know from experience.”
I have no experience. I’m far too intelligent for such nonsense. “When one falls in love, that person makes the decision to become vulnerable. It’s not a path I’d ever willingly choose so, no. What about you? Has Bonny Bleu ever been in love?”
“I’ve tried dating but it never matters what I do. I’m always what’s wrong.” She’s nervously twisting the ring on her thumb. “I’m able to capture other’s emotions in photos yet I can’t get a grip on my own. I avoid connecting with people. I make myself an island so it gives me an excuse to remain alone.” She sighs and looks embarrassed. “Wow. That sounded like a psychological profile … or something.”

Review:

I didn't think I would be on my toes so much as I was while reading "A Necessary Sin" and what a fitting name.  You're suppose to love the good guys but unfortunately I'm rooting for Sinclair and Blue on so many different levels.

When Bleu was young, she witnessed a tragedy that left her damaged and volatile.  She did things for one specific reason and she had one goal to carry out before her life ended.   She knew what had to be done to seek the vengeance that has haunted her for years. She was ready to follow through with everything with the help of her father but things soon changed.

Sinclair woven from his fathers cloth in some aspects of his life but in others, when he fell in love, he fell hard and would go through anything necessary to protect those he loved.  Bleu was a necessary sin for him.  The life style that he lead would ultimately kill her or try.  She was out to get the person responsible for her pain and he was in the middle of it.
I knew there was a possibility I might have to get into bed with the enemy, but I had no idea I'd be this electrified by doing so. It makes me feel dirty. But I like it. And I shouldn't.
The things that each of them endure on the book shows the true commitment of both. In the beginning you're cheering for Bleu but the more you read. the more you want Sinclair to win and be free and happy.  I loved the interaction between these two. Both on separate missions but it lead to each other.  Bleu was feisty but she was also needy and lonely.  Sinclair was also lonely but when you think about it, it is really the same reason.

I'm anxious to see how things unravel in the next book. I feel there's more to Sinclair and Bleu that we have yet to find out.
